The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida intends to adopt Public Housing Waiting List preferences for Homeless Veterans and Working Families as described below.  This preference will be weighted equally with date and time stamp as the factor to determine placement on the Waiting List.

1. Waiting List Preference for Homeless Veterans (Public Housing)

In order to address the problem of homelessness in our area among Veterans the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida will establish a preference on the Public Housing Waiting List for Homeless Veterans. To qualify for the preference, the head, spouse, co-head or sole member is a Veteran with a qualifying discharge type (General, Under Honorable Conditions or an Honorable Discharge) from any branch of the U.S. military. The Veteran must also meet the criteria of the McKinney-Vento specification for homelessness as follows:

(A) IN GENERAL.-For purposes of this Act, the term "homeless", "homeless individual", and "homeless person" means-

(1) an individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence;

(2) an individual or family with a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings, including a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station, airport, or camping ground;

(3) an individual or family living in a supervised publicly or privately operated shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangements (including hotels and motels paid for by Federal, State, or local government programs for low-income individuals or by charitable organizations, congregate shelters, and transitional housing);

The public review period is from November 9, 2015 through February 11, 2016.
There will be a Public Hearing for comments on the revised plan at the Central Office
on February 11, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.
